Photo Love: HONEYVERSERY

I originally found these pictures via the 'HAPPINESS IS...' blog.  They are a photoshoot taken by a couple, Tim & Mer to celebrate their honeyversary in Palm Springs.
I absolutely love the vintage/retro feel to them.  It's so cute & unique.

Now those who know me, know I am not a very girly or romantic person.  Oh sure I have my moments but in general, the gushy stuff just isn't for me.  These pictures, however, kind of make me squeal a little inside.  Particularly the one above of them watching the movie on the reel with their hands entwined.

Check out the rest of the lovely photo's as well as the rest of Mer & Tim's work over at 'SWEET LITTLE PHOTOGRAPHS'.  I'm in love with their pinup girl photoshoots!

Typewriting Dreams

 >source<
Sometimes I think that the one thing I need in my life is a vintage typewriter to work on.  The concept is so romantic.  The ringing of the keys.  The fresh ink as it hits the paper.  All while sitting at a desk next to the window that overlooks a hazy, summery field.  [I don't know why but that setting is always what I envision.]  Maybe if I had an old typewriter it would inspire me to finally finish one of the many novels or screenplays I've started over the years.
Then reality sets in I remember how many spelling errors I make when typing, how many times I change my mind on a sentences format.  I think I'd use up the world supply of paper, not to mention my patience.
No, I think for story writing I shall stick to my trusty laptop.  Still though, it would be nice to have a typewriter to play around with.  Perhaps write some letters and notes.
[Those of you looking for a late birthday or early christmas present for me take note.]

Sharon Springs

Yesterday, I went with my parents to Sharon Springs for an art show along the main street.  Sharon Springs has always been one of my favorite small villages to visit.  It was best known for its mineral baths back in its hayday but has since dropped off the map.  Still, I love its desolate charm.  The area has so much history to it.  The buildings are gorgeous!  [Not to mention it is also home to some of my favorite places to eat, The American Hotel & The Black Cat Cafe.]

The craft show was great & the weather perfect for wandering about main street.  My favorite purchase of the day was a 'tacky' bag for $5.   Well, the woman called it tacky but I simply loved it.  How could I not with deer fabric & glitter on it!

>source:  me!<

Sadly, I didn't manage to take any pictures of the festival being I hurt my neck that morning so walking around was about all I could muster.  I'm taking a friend back soon though so I'll be sure to take some photos then.

The Clock Is Ticking

Graduation is fast approaching!  I can't believe how my time at college has just flown by.  It feels like I just got here for crying out loud!

Yesterday, I went & picked up my cap & gown at the bookstore.  I think trying that on was the clicker for me.  This is really happening!  In two days I will be getting my diploma [Well, an empty fake diploma holder.  The real one gets shipped home.] and saying goodbye to the place that, as much as I have cursed it, has been my home for the past 4 years.  As much as I can't wait to go somewhere else a part of me is a little sad to see this part of my life end.

On a cheerier note, the shoes I bought for graduation came today as well.  A pair of teal, vintage jelly's from the 80's.  Courtesy of PeppermintThrift on etsy.  I tried them on yesterday and they fit perfectly and are so comfy.  I can't wait to wear them Saturday!
I'm too lazy to take a picture of my own and upload it currently so here's the picture of them from PeppermintThrift.  I have to say I was a little weary of buying vintage online when I couldn't see the quality for myself but PeppermintThrift was great.  Their products are in great condition, the prices reasonable, and the delivery was super fast!  I highly recommend them.

Foals Newborn Album

A day late for Tuesday tunes but I just couldn't wait till next week to post this.  The UK group Foals are releasing their second album.  Sadly, it is only available in the UK as of right now.  Lame old U.S. of A will have to wait till June for the full thing.  Until then though, 'The Maroon Cafe' has an audio of their new single Blue Blood.  You can check it out here.

Foals was first formed back in 2008 where they released their first album called 'Antidotes'.  Their sound is a unique mix of indie rock & alternative dance with a little bit of everything else thrown in there.  I discovered them a couple of months ago but was just reminded of my love for them with the release of their new single.

I think it's safe to say that I will be listening to 'Antidotes' quite a bit in the coming month till June arrives and I can get their new album.

Happy Hump Day!

Happy Hump Day everyone!

This past week has been so nice.  Its such a change not to be running around like a chicken with my head cut off attempting massive amounts of projects.  I still have lots to get done but at least now I have some time to enjoy friends and our final week together.  It's so weird to think that this time next week I'll be a college grad.  Eek!

Yesterday, I went on a wine tour held by our college for our senior class.  Five wineries in one day...  quite the adventure!  My one friend and I bought a few wines and [most exciting of all!] some cheeses so we can sample and have a wine & cheese night soon.  I have to say I'm very excited for this.

Well now I'm off to celebrate roomie's birthday with sushi & Iron Man II.  Whoot!

Window Shopping: Tattoo Socks

I absolutely love etsy & with my recent amount of free time I have been browsing on it a lot more.  Finishing up birthday & graduation presents for friends & searching for ideas for my sister's wedding.  There's so many things!  [Now I just need money to buy them all!]

Anyway, the current items I am lusting after are these tattoo socks.  Maybe its due to the fact that I've been craving a new tattoo on my ankle but I just can't help but love these!  They're so gorgeous!

Graduation present to myself perhaps?  hehehe.

Check out the Tattoo Socks full shop HERE on etsy.

No More Teachers, No More Books!

[well, textbooks anyway...]

Well folks, approximately 3 hours ago I finished presenting the last project of my college career EVER!   Yes, finals are complete.  I can now have a life again!  Time to break out the kazoos [and vodka]!  So exciting!  Although the presentation didn't go as well as I hoped at least it is done and over with.  : D

Now, what to do with my sudden abundance of free time?

New Tunes: Nottee

The Maroon Cafe never fails to help me on my quest for good music.  Really, they should start paying me for the amount of publicity I give them.  [to all five of you who read this!]  Anyway, this weeks new love is Nottee, a Sweedish artist with a pop beat who I can't seem to find much information on.  I think it's safe to say though that after listening to her song 'Young Modern Life' we will be hearing much more from her soon. She has an amazing beat and sound that mixes piano with techno and just reminds me of late night dance parties with disco balls and flashing lights [but in a good way!].

To have a listen head over to The Maroon Cafe here.
Or check out their myspace page here and listen to a couple of other songs as well.
Also, click on the source for the picture above for a brief but great bio about this amazing new singer.

Fighting the Craving

I have been craving a new tattoo like crazy recently.  Well actually, I've been craving another tattoo ever since I got my first one over two years ago. [god I'm getting old!]  It's a strange craving for me when I am terrified of needles & have threatened to punch a nurse on more than one occasion when getting blood drawn. Still, I am in love with them & can't wait to get another one.  It's true what all my friends said, don't get a tattoo cause you're going to want more.  Well I did & I do.

I have a few tattoos planned out that I would like to get but really it all comes down to the issues of money [damn you green paper!] if I'll be able to get one or not.  In the mean time, I've been looking through pictures of tattoos like crazy to help satiate my craving.

This girl has sushi tattooed on her left arm!
This is almost like the key tattoo I want.  Only slightly larger & on my ankle...  someday.

UPDATE:  So turns out looking at tattoo photographs does not help my craving, it only makes it worse...  Damn it.

Final project due dates are fast approaching & with them, my insomnia & lack of motivation.  Whoo!

Paper Birds & Indoor Swings

I adore this room.  The color, the wallpaper, the bed.  It is simply amazing.  I feel like if I were in a space like this I'd be more motivated to be creative.  I think I'm going to have to redo my room at home this summer.  Definitely help me get inspired and maybe help me figure some things out.

Dainty Squid posted some of them a few days ago and I just fell in love [like with most things I see on her blog].

Hump Day Blues

WeHeartIt is my new favorite site to browse.  It is the best place to find beautiful, inspiring pictures to help me kick this bad funk I'm in.  That combined with the lovely musical workings of The Perishers & I will beat this day yet!

Anywhere But Here

Places I wish I were right now besides where I am:

IRELAND
Stroll the Irish hillsides by day.  Spend my nights [and afternoons] in a local pub.  Fall in love with an Irish man.
LONDON
Wander the streets of London.  Go to awesome rock concerts.  Drink lots of tea.  Fall in love with a Brit.
SAVANNAH
Lay in the parks and do nothing.  Be inspired.  Create art.
HOGWARTS
Need I really say more?
I'm still not convinced the owl carrying my acceptance letter didn't get lost during some freak tornado.  At least Harry Potter world opens soon so I can go and live my dream...  maybe sneak into some corner of the castle and never leave.

Lost: Creativity [and the ability to function]

This about sums up how I've felt today.  I've been in such a haze.  I can barely concentrate on anything or focus on what I need to do let alone be creative with it.  I've decided to try and relax a bit this evening [and by that I mean work in my room instead of in the design labs].  Hopefully I'll be back to normal come tomorrow so I can kick some ass on these killer projects that seem to be eating my soul.

Do the Bunny Hop

Well, the blog isn't even a month old yet and I'm already neglecting it.  I'm such a bad blog owner.  >.<
Being a senior in college in the final month before graduation is really taking its toll on me.  I've been crazy busy this past week with no end of the insanity in sight.

I did take the weekend off however to go home & enjoy some Easter goodness.  The Easter bunny (aka:  my mom) was very good to me this year, getting me the movie 'Tapeheads' with my love John Cusack & 'The Informers' by Bret Easton Ellis as well as the traditional pile of chocolaty goodness.

My mom also got me this adorable bottle of perfume that I was oogling last month.  The scent is Mandarian Tea and while just this mini bottle was a tad on the expensive side, the scent was just so amazing.  Plus it's made by a company called 'Love + Toast'!  How could I not love it with a name like that?!

Well that about sums it up for now.  I hope everyone had a nice Easter.  As you can see the blog has changed slightly.  I still want to play with the layout a bit more and make a new banner but that will have to wait until after the craziness has died down a bit.

Until then!

She & Him

Nothing makes me happier than discovering a good album. So after spilling coffee all over, locking myself out, & stumbling over a presentation like a bumbling child just hitting puberty, I was more than thrilled to realize that the new 'She & Him' album had been released.

For those of you unaware, 'She & Him' is a collaboration band by the amazing & talented M. Ward & Zoey Deschanel. I first fell in love with them 2 years ago when their first album came out & are thrilled that they have reunited for a second. Their sound has a definite older, more retro feel to it. Like something you'd hear from the 50's or 60's. It never fails to cheer me up & is a perfect new spring album.

Liberty For All!

This past week it has been gorgeous out. It's really been giving me spring fever and along with that, a huge craving for a new spring wardrobe. Now before I go any further let me be clear. I am not very girly by nature. However, I do have my moments. And apparently this last week has been one big girly moment.

Anyway, a few days ago my roommate & I went to Target. It was there that I discovered my new obsession: Liberty of London. Liberty is a brand that recently released a collection of items (both clothing & housewares) for Target stores. It's style is very bright and chic. The prints remind me of something from the 60's. It's so happy a cheerful. A real treat after such a dreary winter.

The shirt I bought from the collection:

The collection is so popular its selling out insanely fast. I believe it came out Monday and by Tuesday when my roommate & I went a lot was already sold out. To check out the full collection [or what's left of it] check out here.

Happy Green Beer & Shamrocks Day!

So yesterday my roommate & I went out searching for St. Patty's Day decorations for our suite. Sadly, there were none to be found. All the stores were already getting their Easter stuff out. Not to be stopped however we decided to make our own. So last night she and I sat on the floor of our common room and cut out cute little shamrocks [all while watching The Princess and the Frog]. We're still finishing hanging them but I just thought I'd post a picture of the loviliness in progress.

I'll try to remember to post more later once it's complete... provided i haven't started drink by then. No promises! : )

Hope everyone has a good saint patrick's day! : )

Hippos are the Opposite of Flyable

This is the story of how hippos came to be catapulted.

One night so very long ago [and by long ago I mean two days ago] this blog was without a name. A friend of mine & myself were discussing potential ideas for what to call it. My first idea was 'Awkward Hippo' but I quickly changed my mind & decided I wanted something to do with rocket ships. To which, my friend replied, "well that's completely different! hippos are the exact opposite of flyable!" I responded with: "not if you use a catapult." Thus, Catapulting Hippos was born.

On a related side note, until a couple hours ago catapulting was spelled wrong due to my failure at spelling when sleepy & my friends failure to notice it was spelled wrong... even when i asked her. Oh well!

The Beginning Of the End... Or the End of the Beginning? Let's Just Call It Armageddon

The first posting on a new blog...

There is so much pressure when writing your first post as a new blogger. [And not just from the roomie next door yelling at me to hurry up.] What I write here will forever set the tone of the blog. The first post shows just what type of blog it will be, what the readers [all 2.25 of you!] should expect henceforth.

I think the standards have just been lowered.

No, on second thought, they were never that high to begin with.
